Child benefits: the round about
Why are you entitled to child benefits? Because Belgian social security was also designed for children. It helps to finance their education and well-being. Either because they live in one of the three regions, or because their parents work and pay taxes in the region.
When should you apply for child benefit?
Right up until your child turns 25!
- You are applying for a Maternity Allowance and your child has not yet been born? Your child is already registered with KidsLife and will receive the Maternity Allowance, and the Basic Amount automatically after the birth.
- Are you arriving in Wallonia or starting to work here? You will receive the child benefit as soon as we have received all the necessary information (for example, from the child benefit administration abroad).
- Are you switching to KidsLife from your current Child Benefit Fund in Wallonia? As long as your previous enrolment lasted more than 2 years, you will receive the child benefit during the quarter following that of your application.
Which conditions do I have to fulfil to receive child benefit?
To receive child benefits, there are three main conditions:
- Live or work in Wallonia: your child lives in Wallonia or one of their parents works there
- Age: your child is under 25 years of age
- Income: your child does not work and does not earn money. This condition becomes important from such time as they reach majority.
